Gary, Indiana
Mobile dewatering of biosolids and landfill disposal
The Gary Indiana WWTP embarked on a project to rehabilitate their dewatering and thickening
facilities. This required taking their belt filter presses and dissolved air flotation units
off-line for approximately seven (7) months. During this period, BioTech Agronomics provided mobile
dewatering of the biosolids from the Gary Indiana Wastewater Treatment Plant. We mobilized a
trailer mounted belt filter press and dewatered approximately 31,000,000 gallons of biosolids,
which were subsequently transported to the nearby landfill. In addition, we set-up and operated
a portable gravity belt thickener and processed the facilities daily waste activated sludge
(WAS) during that period. The GBT successfully achieved 4-5% total solids, which was better
than two times the typical TWAS concentration from the DAFT units. This reduced the overall
biosolids volume and enhanced their anaerobic digestion processes.
