VILLAGE OF MIDDLEVILLE, MI

Biosolids removal, dewatering and landfill disposal

Following sampling and analysis of the biosolids in preparation for land application, the Village of Middleville determined that their nickel concentration was more than twice the threshold level allowed by MDEQ regulations.

Consequently, they contracted with BioTech Agronomics to provide pumping, dewatering, transportation and landfilling of the contaminated biosolids. Following bench testing of the sludge and determination that dissolved nickel concentrations in the filtrate were acceptable for recycle into the villages' SBR, we mobilized a trailer mounted belt filter press and dewatered approximately 600,000 gallons of sludge, which was subsequently transported to the nearby landfill in Hastings. Our staff performed confined space entry and pressure washed the entire tank to remove all nickel residuals. Our operators closely monitored the SBR process control data and this project was completed in a 30 day window with no negative impact to on-going wastewater treatment.
