MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAYLagoon biosolids removal, closure and demolitionThe Michigan International Speedway (MIS) decided to connect to the Leoni Township sanitary sewer system and abandon their three (3) acre wastewater lagoons and build a parking lot in their place. Approximately five weeks before the first race of the season, BioTech Agronomics was contracted by MIS to provide removal, transportation land application and agronomic management of the biosolids from the wastewater lagoons, including implementation of the MDEQ approved closure plan. In coordination with MDEQ and the local agricultural community, our land management staff expediently identified land application sites and developed a residuals management plan and obtained MDEQ approval for this project. Approximately 1,500,000 gallons of biosolids were removed and land applied during a two week period. Upon completion of the biosolids removal, we performed the MDEQ required sampling and analyses and coordinated with MDEQ to obtain final approval for closure. The lagoons were demolished and the parking lot was constructed in time for the first race week. |
