PORT HURON, MICHIGAN

Mobile dewatering of biosolids and landfill disposal

The City of Port Huron land applies approximately 1500 dry tons of liquid biosolids per year and incinerates the balance of their production during the winter. One of the local industries discharged an excessive amount of molybdenum into the sanitary sewer system, thereby rendering the biosolids unacceptable for land application. BioTech Agronomics mobilized a mobile belt filter press to the Port Huron WWTP and dewatered and landfilled the biosolids to remove the molybdenum contaminated material from the facility.

Upon successfully demonstrating that the molybdenum source had been eliminated and the biosolids met the Part 24 Land Application criteria, land application was resumed until the winter conditions made land application impossible. Recognizing that the incinerators were maintenance and labor intensive, City embarked on the construction of a four (4) MG biosolids storage tank that would facilitate biosolids storage during wet weather conditions and winter months. Consequently, the City made the decision to contract with BioTech Agronomics to dewater and landfill the facilities' biosolids during the winter months, until the tank construction was completed, in lieu of incinerating. BioTech Agronomics set-up our mobile centrifuge at the Port Huron WWTP to consistently process the facilities' weekly biosolids production.
